Ellen Laughlin is a child therapist at Kids’ Therapy Works, offering psychodynamic counselling for children and young people aged 8 to 18 at our Lakelands Centre in Stanway, Colchester. Sessions help children who are anxious, withdrawn, angry or struggling to express what they feel. Initial sessions are available within two weeks.
How a child therapist can help
Children often can’t explain what’s wrong, so it comes out in behaviour, sleep, school refusal or friendships. Ellen works with children to understand the feelings underneath. Sessions are relaxed and child-led, using conversation, play and drawing alongside talking, with regular check-ins with parents.
What counselling can help with
Anxiety and worry
Low mood
Bereavement and loss
Bullying and friendship difficulties
Family separation or divorce
School avoidance
Low self-esteem and confidence
Emotional difficulties linked to additional needs
About Ellen
Ellen holds an MA in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Essex, specialising in children and adolescents, and is a registered member of the BACP (MBACP).
She previously worked as a school counsellor supporting young people through trauma, bereavement, bullying and identity, and as a support worker with Autism Anglia, giving her a deep understanding of neurodivergent children and their families. Her warm, empathic approach helps children feel at ease from the very first session.
What to expect
Sessions last 50 minutes and are paid for in advance. Parents are invited to the first session so Ellen can understand your child’s background and what has brought you to counselling. After that, Ellen sees your child on their own, with regular check-ins with you on themes and progress. Book online or call 07902 782874.
Why choose Kids’ Therapy Works
Ellen’s counselling sits within a multi-disciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a speech and language therapist. If your child’s emotional wellbeing is linked to physical challenges, additional needs or difficulties at school, we can offer a joined-up approach that most standalone counsellors can’t.
