New Resource: Local Accessible Places for Families

We're excited to announce the launch of our new Local Accessible Resources page, designed to help families discover sensory-friendly, accessible places to visit across Colchester and North Essex. Finding venues that truly welcome children with additional needs can be challenging, so we've created this guide to share our favourite local spots that combine fun, learning, and genuine inclusion. From Colchester Zoo's Autism Friendly Award-winning facilities to the peaceful beaches at Frinton and West Mersea with their Changing Places toilets and beach wheelchair hire, each venue has been chosen for its accessibility features and welcoming atmosphere.

We've also highlighted the free Inclusive Park at our Stanway clinic base, the Lakelands Centre, which offers wheelchair-accessible play equipment and sensory objects for children of all abilities. But this is just the beginning - we know there are many more wonderful accessible venues across our area, and we need your help to make this resource even better. Have you discovered a cafe with a genuinely sensory-friendly environment? A park with excellent accessible play equipment? A museum that goes above and beyond for children with additional needs? We'd love to hear about your positive experiences so we can share them with other families.
