Hydrotherapy (Aquatic Physiotherapy)

We harness the unique therapeutic properties of water to provide safe, effective treatment for children with physical challenges. Heated therapy pools (c.32°C) create an optimal environment where:

  • Natural buoyancy reduces body weight and gravitational stress

  • Water resistance provides gentle strengthening opportunities

  • Warm temperature promotes muscle relaxation and reduces spasticity

  • Three-dimensional support enables movements impossible on land

  • Pain reduction occurs through hydrostatic pressure and warmth

  • Cardiovascular fitness improves in a low-impact environment

This approach particularly benefits children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, hypermobility syndrome, and those requiring post-surgical rehabilitation.

FAQs

What therapy services does Kids' Therapy Works offer?

We provide specialist paediatric physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy for children from birth to 18 years old. Our services include intensive therapy blocks, equine-assisted physiotherapy (hippotherapy), hydrotherapy, constraint induced movement therapy (CIMT), and post-SDR rehabilitation. Our approach is adapted for each developmental stage, and we often provide a combination of therapies working together for coordinated care.

Where are your clinics located?

We have three clinic locations: Copford (our main clinic at Green Farm Barns), Stanway (Lakelands), and Brentwood (REACH partnership). We also provide home visits across Essex, East Anglia, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, London and beyond, school-based therapy sessions, and online consultations. All our clinic locations have free parking and are accessible for wheelchairs and mobility equipment.

How do I get started with therapy for my child?

Simply call us on 01206 212 849 to discuss your child's needs. We'll arrange an initial assessment lasting 60-90 minutes where our therapist will evaluate your child and discuss how we can help. You don't need a referral from your GP or consultant to access our services. We aim to offer initial assessments within 2-3 weeks of your call, often sooner.

Do you accept private healthcare insurance?

Yes, we work with many insurance providers and can provide all necessary reports and documentation for insurance claims. We're also registered with numerous charities that may fund therapy services directly, and we can provide information about potential charitable funding sources. We're transparent about all costs and will discuss fees during your initial contact.

Can my child receive multiple types of therapy?

Absolutely. Many children benefit from a combination of therapies. Our multi-disciplinary team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists who work together to address all aspects of your child's development. We coordinate with other professionals involved in your child's care to ensure a joined-up, holistic approach.

Do you offer flexible appointment times and locations?

Yes, we understand that family life can be unpredictable. We offer clinic appointments at our three locations, home visits when more appropriate for your child or family circumstances, school-based therapy when beneficial, and online video consultations for some types of therapy and follow-up sessions. We aim to make accessing therapy as convenient as possible for your family.
